Kindle Touch Vs. Nook Simple Touch
The Nook Simple Touch is a great device that has some very nice features. Some that we really like here at Net Pyro is the “rubberized” finish of the device. Some don’t like it, complaining of fingerprinting, but we think it gives it a nice grippy, warm feel. Page turning is done by a tap or swipe of the finger on the E Ink screen, or can be done with the programmable side buttons. This is a great feature as well.
The Kindle Touch is a full-touch device, without the side buttons. It looks to be a clean, sleek design that will certainly be a hot seller this holiday season. The memory capacity is triple the Nook STR.
Some notable differences:
-Kindle Touch’s WiFi only is $40 cheaper than Nook STR (only offered in WiFi)
-Kindle Touch’s memory is triple that of Nook STR
-Kindle offers International Wireless coverage in 100+ countries
Kindle 3 With Keyboard Vs. Nook 1st Edition
The older versions of Kindle and Nook are still great products, and actually preferable to some. The Kindle has a keyboard that is easy to access, and quick and simple to use. The Nook 1st Edition has a splash of color! Who knows how long Amazon and Barnes and Noble will offer these models until they decide to phase them out. But as of now they are still available for cheap at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Some Notable Differences-
-Kindle w/keyboard has 3,500 books memory while Nook has 1,500
-Kindle battery life is 2 months vs. 10 days for the Nook
-No international coverage for the Nook
-Nook 1st Edition is $10 less than the Kindle w/keyboard
Newest Kindle Base Model
New Kindle- $79.00 (available now)
This is a 5-way controller device. It may LOOK like a touch-screen E ink device, but it’s not. You can tell that the keyboard function will obviously be more laborious and take longer than the “with keyboard” version released last year. There are some noticeable downgrades from the Kindle with keyboard version, but the price is less…
Some Notable Differences from the earlier Kindle…
Memory-1,400 books, unlimited Cloud storage and back up (instead of 3,500)
Battery Life- 30 Days (instead of 60)
WiFi Only- Connects to wireless networks and AT&T hotspots. (no 3G model available)
Overall, this is a good starter-version of the Kindle. It’s even smaller than last years version at under 6 ounces, but still has the same 6-inch reading screen.

There are a lot of new models available this year. It remains to be seen how the public will embrace the newest Kindle, Kindle Touch, and 3G models, but if it’s anything like the embrace of the Nook Simple Touch Reader, it will be very popular this holiday season and beyond. There are many good new and slightly older E Ink devices available between Barnes and Noble and Amazon. So who’s winning the battle of Kindle vs. Nook E Ink readers? The fight has really heated up and will be riveting to watch.
